Christmas Show | Kris Allen comes to light our Christmas Tree in NoVa again on November 15

Tysons Corner Tree Lighting
Tysons Corner, Virginia
November 15, 2019
Free! 6 - 9 PM EST

So true confessions, I didn't go to the local DC area tour stop this year for various reasons. I felt kind of guilty about missing it! Flash forward, I was searching Facebook and local event blogs for some fun and free things to do this month, and I stumbled on this event before the mall announced it! Kris is returning to light up Northern Virginia's nicest mall's Christmas Tree. So I get a Kris show after all!

The photo above is mine from the last time he did this. It was a great way to kick off the holiday and I'm glad he's going to do it again for us. Hopefully the weather will be good, as it is an outdoor event. Hope to see many of you there! It's free, you can take the metro there, and having gone a few times, I can say it is a lot of fun. You can find all the information here. Keep an eye on the mall's IG account too. Last time they had a meet and greet contest.

Updated November 16 with Kira's photos and Eric's video of five songs from the set from this event after the break! Plus bonus review from Mr. KAL who saw Kris for the first time last night.

This event was fun!

Soundcheck was around 5. I didn't make it but found this fantastic photoset on IG:

The Tysons Santa is awesome. At one point he came up to me and Mr. KAL and randomly handed us socks. He had some fun banter with Kris right before the tree lighting.

The last time Kris lit the tree at Tysons, it was in the 70s. Not so much tonight! Still, a spirited crowd sung along with him and the evening had a great vibe. The set list was a mix of Letting You In songs and Somethin' About Christmas songs, plus the Idol Medley and LLWD. Here's what we've got so far...

First three songs: Somethin' About Christmas, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Here Comes Santa Claus

Peace and Happiness

Faster Shoes (Eric's video embedded below has this, full Just Like Snow, If We Keep Doing Nothing, Idol Medley, and Live Like We're Dying.)

Just Like Snow (I tried to stream, botched that and went for video instead. Sorry for the partial video below, but did get most of the song! This is absolutely in my top ten all time favorite songs by Kris (not just holiday songs, but all the songs. Absolutely just love it.) See Eric's video above for full song.)

At this point, Mr. KAL was too cold, and went into the mall. But he's given me his review of the first few songs. He liked Kris' voice and thought he was "quite good" and the "two guys in the band were crisp and clear." His favorite song was Somethin' About Christmas and he wasn't too sure about Just Like Snow. Too modern for him. He likes a traditional Christmas song. But overall, he enjoyed Kris and the band, so yay! (He's heard Kris' music for years but he just never realized it; this was his first live experience.)

Back to the show after that interruption...

Time Will Come (got an IG video for you - see Eric's video above for full song.)

Wifi is always a PAIN at Tysons. For some reason, Facebook worked best.

Mommy, Is There More Than Just One Santa Claus - ok, you know I don't like this song all that much, but it was funny trying to watch Kris lure the kids off the Shake Shack playground to watch this.

If We Keep Doing Nothing - Really heartfelt and eloquent speech from Kris about the Santa Clarita shooting. He hopes that one day he doesn't have to sing this song anymore. The crowd applauded his remarks. (no video yet; hopefully someone did. In the meantime, you can see the whole performance in this video, which actually includes quite a few songs...)

Idol Medley - Included in video above.

Last few songs in the video below:
Baby Won't You Wait Until the New Year

Live Like We're Dying - Virginia always does a good job on this singalong. Eric's video also has LLWD.

Great photoset from Kira of the whole show start to finish! She's a rockstar, waited 5 hours from soundcheck on in chilly temperatures, and didn't duck into the mall during the opening act like I did...

Had a fun chat with him (he stayed and greeted everyone after). Only scoop I got is that he is doing a college show near Saint Louis in December and that will sadly be the only other Krismas show this year. Oh, and he met Waka Flaka Flame at his FAU show and thought he was really nice. (We were talking college shows; I was telling him that my kid's D3 alma mater always picked the rappers over the WGWGs of the late 2000s for shows, including Waka, and he remembered his college show with Waka.) Great to see Kris and now Christmas can officially start!
