Throwback Thursday: Kris Allen Band Plays Anthology in San Diego, July 24, 2010

Every Thursday we take a look back at Kris' career via video.

I had a blast covering Kris' two California shows with Andy Grammer last week. San Diego is always one of his best cities and always gives good list, which is appreciated. This morning, I saw Kris fan @damitman take a little ride via TimeHop to this San Diego Kris show and this memorable moment from it. I realized the show took place exactly four years ago, and a #ThrowbackThursday blog post was born.

The San Diego gig was actually two sold-out shows at the San Diego venue Anthology, which is known as a great place to see live gigs.

Anthology was kind enough to make a professional recording of Kris' cover of Paranoid Android. Since they took down the video, and I don't want to reveal its current whereabouts ;), here's an excellent substitute from our good friend @summerdaze_

And a nice mp3 made from the professional recording.

You can view more videos of this show on this awesome playlist compiled by @maryet34. Also check out the set lists for the first show (amazing set list by the way) and the second show.

Enjoy!

p.s. Don't forget to look forward too! We've got Horizons coming out on August 12 (pre-order on iTunes!) and a whole bunch of new and rumored shows this fall! Check out my calendar at the bottom of this page (click agenda) to see the upcoming dates! And please let me know @KrisAllenLists if you are going to any of them!

Show and List Preview:
This is a very exciting show! It's the first show for Kris since he announced the release of his single, Prove It To You, as well as the imminent August 12 release of his new album, Horizons. Although we've heard many of the Horizons tracks already, we've not heard PITY done live yet. However, his duet partner, Lenachka, confirmed she will be at this show to perform the song. Plus he's teamed up with the awesome Andy Grammer for two west coast shows (this one and one the following night in San Diego, CA). Check out this week's Throwback Thursday post for an Andy/Kris friendship retrospective! I wish they could have made this a full-blown tour.

As far as our list, we have some great tweeters and video-takers which is normal for a Los Angeles-area show. We also have been chatting with some wonderful Andy Grammer fans and you'll find them on the list as well. We'll keep an eye out for surprise celebrity guests and friends of Kris to add to the list too. Who knows, Adam Lambert might even make an appearance as his summer tour with Queen has a gap in dates that night. (I'm kidding, it's very unlikely.)  In unwelcome news, one person who won't be there: Cale. (Update: Also looks like drummer Steve did not make the trip.)

Throwback Thursday: Kris Allen and Andy Grammer

Every Thursday we take a look back at Kris' career via video.

As most Kris fans probably know, the first show of the summer for us is tomorrow in Anaheim, CA, as Kris opens for Andy Grammer, and they have a second show together on Saturday in San Diego. Get your tickets now!

But this is not Kris' first interaction with Andy Grammer; in fact, the two have performed in a few shows together and share quite a few fans. So a retrospective seemed in order for this week's #TBT post.

Many Kris fans, including me, first heard of Andy Grammer when we spent October 2010 desperately spamming useless radio station polls in an effort to get Alright With Me played. I can't remember which station it was, but one of them put Alright With Me head to head in a poll with Andy's eventual big hit, Keep Your Head Up. Alright With Me won but it was a very narrow victory and I recall those of us who clicked on Andy's clip liked it a lot.

A few weeks later, Kris and Andy met for the first time while doing a radio station's 2010 Christmas show together in Portland, OR (along with season 9 winner, Lee DeWyze). Here's a picture of their meeting from Andy's Facebook:

Kris fan @mylifeback remembers that both guys were entertaining and fun in the show. Here's KrisTogether's thread for the show (thanks @ISBinLA!) Andy posted this nice comment on Facebook.

Here's a video of Alright With Me taken by @elemental1025 from that show:

Flash forward a few more months into 2011, and Keep Your Head Up had become a big hit! My friend @subeeDC won a radio station contest to meet Andy at a lunchtime concert/meet and greet event, and took me. It was a lot of fun and we did ask Andy about meeting Kris (and @mylifeback) - he was very effusive in his praise of Kris and how much he had enjoyed doing that Portland concert. Here's a video of Andy from that event.

The following year, Kris and Andy met up again when they performed at a Buffalo radio station's Starry Night in the Garden summer concert. Sadly the station has taken down its video of that show, but @altrus01 has some excellent videos of both Kris and Andy on her YouTube channel.

No duets or collabs from Kris and Andy yet, but hopefully they will collaborate in the future! Meanwhile, let's look forward to the shows this week! The Anaheim list and post will be available later tonight. Be sure to let me know (@KrisAllenLists on Twitter) to add you to the lists if I haven't done so!

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday: 7/5/2013: Kris Allen and Band Play the CoastWest Festival, Muskegon, MI

Every Thursday we take a look back at Kris' career via video.

For this Thursday, obviously it's the day before the Fourth of July. And a day before my vacation starts! So we will enjoy a look back at a video of Kris wearing a patriotic tee-shirt while playing a festival on Michigan's coast. Since we just learned his new album, Horizons, is due out next month, in honor of it, we will go with one of its tracks - Young Love (aka the song we all know, love and will continue to refer to as,  because updating gazillions of tags and titles is annoying, Paul Simon).

Enjoy! Have a safe and wonderful Fourth of July!

p.s. No Throwback Thursday post next week since I shall still be on vacation.
