Throwback Thursday: January 30, 2011: Kris sings the National Anthem at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii

Every Thursday we take a look back at Kris' career via video.

This week we go back exactly three years to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, where Kris performed the National Anthem. This ended up being an excellent and unique performance, and quite the media-fest for us!

Let's take a look back:

Pre-Show Shenanigans:

Back then we were "Krinjalists" and everything was so DIY. We had to figure out everything for ourselves! (It's still kind of that way at times, lol. But at least Kris fans can find me in search now.) And with me not being the biggest football fan, I really didn't know how the Pro Bowl worked. Luckily - we got an assist and a Kris spotting from the Pro Bowl's pre-show musical act:

Here's an awesome picture taken by Kris' then manager, Lizzie, of Kris with Johnny Rzesnik of the Goo Goo Dolls during the festivities:

And I think a lot of you loved this picture when it first came out:

The Performance:

Kris put a nice Hawaiian spin on the anthem, assisted by adorable schoolchildren. He got a lot of compliments and trended on Twitter organically (i.e., not intentionally fan-generated but just people watching the Pro Bowl) for awhile

You can download an mp3 here.

Some Bonus Good Stuff:
Here's my favorite thing of all of this:

Throwback Thursday: Something Warm for Kris Allen Fans

It's Throwback Thursday, our weekly date to take a look back at Kris' career via video.

Let's face it. I'm in Virginia. It snowed; heavily by our standards. It's cold. All of you on the east coast have it even worse. Many of you in the midwest as well. It is freezing and we need to warm up. We need something hot. So I went looking for some of my favorite "hot" videos for this week's TBT post.

I sadly discovered that my favorite one - a 2009 performance of Can't Stay Away in Charlotte - has been pulled off YouTube! (There's another one but it's shot from too far away for our purposes today.) But I did find another short excerpt from that same performance that will work...

OK, we'll go with Kris dancing in a hot setting! Here's one more (a classic):

So, in conclusion, for all my cold Kris fans, to keep warm, just dance, preferably while watching videos of Kris on a sunny day in a tank top.

Enjoy! And don't forget to tell me if you are going to one of his upcoming shows so I can add you to the list for it! Also, make sure to check out the Kralendar at the bottom of this page for some new college shows just listed!

Throwback Thursday: Kris performs To Make You Feel My Love on American Idol, March 18, 2009

Every Thursday we take a look back at Kris' career via video.

Today's post is inspired by the brand new snippet of Love in a Small Town, the new song Kris co-wrote with Mary Steenburgen for the May 2014 indie-movie Valley Inn, that was posted today, as well as that #IdolBlitz promo chat Kris did and that continues with other idol alumni on Twitter this week.

To my ears, the snippet reminded me of something the Eagles or perhaps Ben Harper would come up with. I loved it. I was looking at some of the comments in the MJs post linked above, and noticed a little debate about whether the song was "country" or not. I do hear country influences in it; to me as a country music fan, that's not a horrible thing. Kris has acknowledged that country music is a genre he grew up with and an influence on him musically. It does make me laugh a little when I see people who are a little put off by it, but then I remember not everyone does grow up with it like Kris did and like I did.

But mostly what that debate triggered for me was a memory of Kara DioGuardi. No worries, although she was not the most pleasing judge to watch or listen to that season, this memory is a pleasant one. During Grand Old Opry week of Season 8 of American Idol, she praised Kris' performance of the Bob Dylan (and later covered by Garth Brooks and Adele) classic, To Make You Feel My Love, and noted:

"I didn't even know that it was Opryland when he was singing that song, it wasn't even country, it just was beautiful...it was very Kris Allen."

Exactly, Kara.
