Letting You In Tour: June 2, 2016: Minneapolis, MN

Screencap by Kris Allen Lists
Concert
June 2, 2016
The Cedar Cultural Center
Minneapolis, MN
Doors 7 PM CDT
Show 7:30 PM CDT
Opening Act: Sean McConnell

All ages

Show and List Preview:
Kris and the band return to this Minneapolis venue, which they last played in 2013. In 2014, they had one of their most successful outings of the Boyce Avenue tour in this city, playing the famous venue, First Avenue.

Updated: While the venue had spotty wifi and that reduced the live tweeting, people were quick to share what they did have! Plus a few intrepid people with good data plans Periscoped some songs and we will get video. Set list and media after the break...
UPDATED 6/9/2016

FAQ: Periscope Tips!

Before we embark on the last leg of the Letting You In Tour, thought I'd share some lessons learned and observations on media that's been shared. My hope is that this will help future show-goers share their media with the rest of the fandom (and help spread the word of mouth about how great Kris is live in concert).

Periscope (updated 6/1/2016)

Periscope is an awesome new app (it's been around for about a year now) that lets a user livestream what they are seeing and hearing. It's being used now by many music fandoms for livestreaming concerts, including ours!

To get a Periscope account, simply download the app (free for iPhone or Android) and sign in with your Twitter handle. That's it.

How to Stream a Show

To stream, simply launch the app and click the picture at the bottom that looks like an alarm clock to begin broadcasting (and be sure click the little Twitter bird on the screen to share the stream link with Twitter). You'll be prompted to name your broadcast - name it whatever you want but make sure to include "#save" in the name. That will preserve your stream; otherwise, it goes poof after 48 hours. Check out this Kris fan's account for examples of naming your stream with #save in the name. (Breaking News: The very latest update to Periscope claims to automatically save your stream! See the screencap below. If this is for real (Kris fans haven't tested it yet), it will make the next section less important.)

Preserving Your Scopes

Also, it is important to save your stream to your camera roll, in case you want to preserve it later on YouTube or another format. For iPhone users, simply check "Autosave Broadcasts" in the Periscope settings (see picture below). There are many tutorials online for how to take that saved footage and rip into a Mac using Quicktime. I'm still looking for a way to combine using a PC and an iPhone, and will update this post if I find one. (Update: Followers say they have been able to just simply upload the video from their camera roll to YouTube in this case.)

Thanks to @christig428 for this example

For Android users, there is an app called Scopedown which you can use to preserve your scope (or turn it into something you can put on YouTube. Simply click on your broadcast in Periscope, copy the URL link and paste into Scopedown.

Tips for Scopers

Here are some tips on using Periscope from Kris fans who have tried it and our resident fandom expert on Periscope, the fabulous @Maryet34, who preserved a lot of your scopes!
  • You may want to bring a small tripod to prop the phone (this assumes you have something to place the tripod on).
  • Break the stream into parts (in other words, don't stream the whole show at once; break it into 20 minute chunks). Periscope will take out the middle if your scope is too long when you preserve it.
  • Make sure to fully label each part with a title and #save.
  • Bring a fully charged portable charger. I found when streaming another artist's concert that a crossbody purse was great for stowing the portable charger, especially if you have to plug it in mid-concert. (Of course, a pocket works well too.)
  • It matters how you hold your phone:
    • If you film horizontally, Persicope users can turn phone & watch full-screen horizontally. The resulting video is sideways, but easily rotated to horizontal full-screen.
    • If you film vertically, Periscope users watch vertically, & when sent to YouTube, it results in a right side up, narrow video.

Other Ways to Stream:

If you're not sold on Periscope, there's always UStream and its ads (unless you want to pay for an account). Or if you just want to do an audio stream, you can record with your iPhone w/the Voice Memos app & upload/share later (on Soundcloud). Finally, there is a new free app called Mixlr which will broadcast an audio stream and then share it later to Soundcloud.

Kris and the band return to Portland, Oregon with the Letting You In Tour. They last played here as openers for Boyce Avenue in 2014, and their last headlining gig in Portland was in 2013 where Kris did an awesome cover of John Lennon's Jealous Guy.

Updated: Only a few people live tweeted, scoped and/or IG'ed - but they did a great job of getting us media! And I've found some more videos on IG and YouTube from people who did not tweet. Reports are that the audience was really into it. Set list and media (including Kris' morning show appearance) after the break...

Show and List Preview:
Kris recently played a festival in Napa Valley, CA and enjoyed it so much apparently, that he's booked another gig here. I'm not sure how this will go. Napa is a small town, this gig is not part of a larger festival, and hopefully this will be promoted to tourists visiting. It has been part of a Groupon promotion.

Updated: Great show, with Letting You In for VIP (gorgeous) and even better, during the show, Kris debuted a new original song, Venice. Set list and videos/media after the break...

Show and List Preview:
Kris and the band return to Sacramento. The last time they were here in 2013 for the Out Alive Tour, they vastly improved a Justin Bieber song. Luckily, the crowd this time is 21+ so hopefully we can avoid Bieber covers (even if they are good ones, they are still Bieber covers for goodness sakes). ;) There will also be a radio show earlier in the day for local station Star 106.5 (who also did one for the Out Alive tour) so that will be incorporated into this post and live tweet list.

Kris brings the Letting You In Tour to this Southern California town in the San Joaquin Valley (about 110 miles north of Los Angeles). The only time Kris has performed here before was a short show for radio station contest winners in March 2010.  Here's a video of him performing Man in the Mirror from it (accompanied by his then-guitarist, Andrew DeRoberts).

Updated: Unlike most of the shows on the tour which have been sold out and promoted well, this one suffered attendance-wise. Too bad. i'm told that Kris apparently decided to just roll with it and have fun, so those who did go had a great, almost private, show. Set list and some media after the break...

Show and List Preview:
With so many shows, it made sense to combine these two into one post as they are an hour apart and a day apart. Very different shows though. The radio show is on May 10 in Fort Collins, CO, and is a free hour-long concert put on by 99.9 The Point, which is a monitored HAC station that has been spinning Waves regularly! The concert is on May 11 in Denver and is the usual concert, which means it should be awesome. Kris played this venue before, but during a blizzard which dampened attendance. Those who went then, though, were treated to an epic set list as it was the last show of the Out Alive tour. This time, it will be spring and the venue is just about sold out!

We will have separate twitter lists for these events. I'm just combining it into one post for my own convenience.

Set list and media for Fort Collins, and set list and videos for Denver after the break...

More recently, he played Dallas in 2014 on the No Limits Tour, opening for Boyce Avenue. (h/t @sojournerGJO - I had totally forgotten that show!)

Updated: This might have been my favorite show of the tour so far. We had a fantastic audio stream and you could hear how engaged the crowd was. Fantastic! Plus we got the premiere of Move and a new Monster mashup, plus the return of Shut That Door. Set list and tons of videos after the break...

Kris is doing a show that is a part of the Bentonville Film Festival. Unfortunately, information is not easy to find for this show as you can see above from the fact I had to screencap Kris' Bands in Town entry for it because there was nothing else to screencap. This article is probably your best resource.

Updated: Very quiet list that initially posted very little and the audience was kind of rude during the show (see the In Time video - I was appalled to be honest). I hope when Kris plays AR again in June that his home state is a little bit more demonstrative in its support for him. Set list and some media after the break...
