Happy New Year! Here's to 2016!

Photo of Kris performing New Year's Eve 2014 by Lisa Renee Photography

Happy New Year! 2015 did not bring us many Kris Allen performances, as he spent the year focusing on his family, his new home in Nashville and recording his upcoming album due out this spring. But we did have some one-offs throughout the year, as well as a mini-tour of Florida in January 2015.

Yesterday on Twitter I asked Kris fans to nominate their favorite Kris performances and shows of the year. Favorites included:

My picks were the Tom Petty tribute (duh!), plus two shows I thought fans overlooked - a singer-songwriter showcase in Nashville where he debuted two new songs and a gig in West Palm Beach with amazing media!

I put the nominated performances from these shows into a little YouTube playlist for you:

Something to keep you busy while you wait for midnight! Or to whet your whistle for all the shows ahead on the Letting You In tour next year!

Happy New Year!

Today's the Day! Tickets on Sale Today for the Letting You In Tour!

http://krisallenofficial.com/tour/

Today is the big day! Tickets go on sale today for Kris' first major US tour since the Out Alive tour of 2013! (Unless you are in Washington DC (presale, see newsletter from venue), Chicago (venue website), Ann Arbor (presale ended) or New York City (presale), in which case tickets went on sale a couple of days ago! No worries, you can still get them!) The name of the tour is Letting You In and there are indications that it will be full band. The great news is that he is playing major cities that he has not played in years!

Click the picture above or click here to go to Kris' official website, where ticket links for each show are to be posted today!

Some questions I've seen people asking and some answers:

Is there VIP? According to his street team, they are still determining that. If you see a VIP ticket, it is something the venue is working up, but not the official meet and greet.

What is the venue? For some reason, the mobile version of his website doesn't show the venues. They are there though - just use a real computer. They are also on his Facebook page or his BandsinTown page.

Good luck to everyone buying tickets today! I am going to have a busy day, but when I can, I'll be on Twitter @KrisAllenLists and will RT all ticket links I see.

Private Event: December 10, 2015: X Card Holiday Party, Miami, FL

I don't usually do posts for private events unless it's easy to find things - they aren't publicized before hand and there's normally not much - but luckily for us, this surprise performance last night at a company holiday party in Miami did have a few private event guests to post some videos!

I have no idea what X Card is, but it threw a holiday party for itself (with one gorgeous Christmas tree) last night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino - and booked a pretty great band in the KAB!

Set list (Order uncertain; may be missing songs - if you were there and can help flesh it out, please contact @KrisAllenLists on Twitter or email krinjalists@gmail.com.):
  1. Paul Simon [Instagram]
  2. Better With You [Facebook video]

Post Show Update:
As we saw from more recent seasons of Idol, some of those Idols aren't reluctant to tweet, so they made up the bulk of our list. ;) They all were in good voice for a good cause. Plus a DJ from Detroit's AMP Radio gave one of our Kris fans a little tour scoop. Post updated with set list and media (some videos) after the break...

Into the Great Wide Open
An Evening of Tom Petty Music

August 31, 2015

6 PM CDT Doors
8 - 10 PM CDT Show

Show and List Preview:
This looks like such a fantastic show but I say this as a biased Tom Petty fan. Great line-up and you really can't go wrong with Petty music. Give me one of Kris' Tom Petty covers any day over one of his girl pop ones. (For those who don't know, Kris and KAB have covered  Breakdown  several  times, Kris, KAB and GRO covered Free Falling, and Kris tackled Petty's holiday classic Christmas All Over Again during one of his StageIt Christmas shows. Plus the country of Italy failed and didn't get us video of what was supposedly a blistering cover of American Girl.) And Torres got to jam with Ron Blair of the Heartbreakers after KAB's gig in West Palm Beach this summer, plus with his other band in California back in June.

As a huge Petty fan, I've got a couple of songs I'd love to hear covered. I'd love to hear Kris cover Here Comes My Girl from Petty's Damn the Torpedoes album. And the subversive side of me would like to hear him do The Last DJ (which is basically an indictment of the major labels and corporate radio conglomerates). Or maybe he should do what I'd nominate to be the theme song for all Kris fans in major US cities, The Waiting.

He'll probably do Breakdown. We do have some regulars who are going.

Updated: Kris performed Here Comes My Girl :)))) And also, with the rest, Walls. Set list (partial for everyone), video (with some quickie mp3s), IGs of everyone and media after the break...

I was asked if I would cover this festival thing that sprouted up and, reading the description, it does sound like just the thing Kris seems to need to get inspired to do some of the things with his career that I would like to see him do. I like that Charlie Peacock, his Horizons producer, is directing it. Most of it is private, but it does have a free public concert on Thursday, July 30.

I don't know about this one. It seems it has not been promoted on Twitter at all. With a little googling and surfing, I have found some promotion though (linked below). But I've got no one on the list. We'll hope it goes well. I'm much more enthused about his next scheduled event (Tom Petty tribute in Nashville on August 31) which seems more up his alley. For those hoping for a Lil Rounds S8 reunion or a duet with WAR, they are headliners on their own nights and not appearing with Kris. Instead, Alexis Grace from Idol Season 8 is his opening act.

Updated: Dead as I predicted, sadly. Please email krinjalists@gmail.com if you were there and can fill in with set list details or photos. There is some media from a promotional appearance after the break and a few of you found Facebook videos from the show.

Kris is one of the featured performers for this brand new festival! Although, I'll be honest, as a General Hospital and Nashville fan, I'm kind of psyched that Jonathan Jackson is in it too. The other day my work BFF asked me if I thought Lucky was going to stay a long time on GH this time around, and I said, nope, he's got a tour and a show with Kris! (I have to admit, that made her laugh.)

Anyway, this festival looks like a great way to spend a Saturday if you're a fan of good indie Americana, country and/or folk-pop music. The festival is in the Dayton, Ohio metropolitan area. Click the links above for tickets and line-up info. One note: KAB will not be performing with Kris; instead he'll be backed by Donnie Reis' band.

Updated: It was a good show for Kris! I hear It's Always You was a highlight. Unfortunately Jonathan Jackson wasn't as "lucky" as a bad storm suspended his show. Post is updated with set list and media (tons of videos and photo albums) after the break..

If you've ever watched an episode of ABC's Nashville, you've seen the Bluebird Cafe. It's the bar that some of the characters work at and frequently showcase their musical talents at. So tonight, Kris Allen and others will do their best Gunnar, Deacon, Avery and Scarlett (well, scratch that last one, you know they will be more interesting than Scarlett). He did one of these earlier this year and it was a successful night!

The list is pretty small as the venue is small and sold out quickly. Limited seats are available for those who show up early on the day of the show (click here to find out more). Hope to add some people last minute. Be aware that the audience is strictly prohibited from taking videos.

Update: A Kris fan got there early for the day of seats, and was still turned away, so the show definitely sold out and was a success!

Kris does his next gig at a college in the outer Chicago suburb of Naperville. Although this was originally booked by Degy and slated for 2014, it was moved to this year and scheduled for the end of May. While that may seem like a bad time to do a college concert, this particular college will still be in class as it doesn't break until June. Also good is that this college is heavily promoting the show via social media to its students. Even better, this particular college show is also available to the general public at a bargain price, so if you are in the Chicago area, you should go! (This may be your only Kris concert this year!)

Our list does indeed include some Kris list regulars, as well as some college students.

Show and List Preview:
This should be a good show! Kris joins some other excellent singer-songwriters in an acoustic, free concert that is part of an annual outdoor concert series in Nashville. According to its website, "In its initial five years, the Musicians Corner audience has substantially grown in size from 5,000 people in 2010 to over 50,000 in 2014." Nice! Let's hope for great weather and a great turnout. If you are in Nashville, this is free, outdoors, family-friendly and on a Saturday afternoon, so goooo!

For those of us watching the show via Twitter and this post, I am hoping Kris will perform the two new songs he debuted at Tin Pan South's showcase: Waves and the still yet-to-be-videoed-so-let's-get-on-that-Kris-fans Belle Meade Gal. Since Kris has taken a break from regular touring to work on writing songs for the next album, this performance seems like a perfect time to showcase some new original music!

Kris goes back to college! I will be prepping for a weekend college road trip myself. If you've followed me for awhile, you probably know I have a kid tennis player and she's trying to pick which college to commit to for next year, so we're re-visiting our top prospects this weekend and checking out one new one that popped up out of nowhere. My advice to Kris would be to take mental notes on all these D2 and D3 colleges he plays in case Oliver wants to do sports in college.

In other words, I'm busy and my mind is elsewhere, so updates to this blog post will be a little scarce and in-between but I'll get it done.

As for this show, it's the usual college show in a rural New England town with very little publicity, but that doesn't matter because it's students only. Hoping these students enjoy instagramming and live-tweeting their shows...

Show and List Preview:
I love a college show where the college actually knows they need to promote the show! And the University of Southern Mississippi has delivered, with the most publicity I've ever seen for a college show. Kris should hire their marketing majors!

That said, this event is open to the general public and free, so if you can make it, go! Kris will also be singing the national anthem afterwards at the Golden Eagles basketball game. Go Golden Eagles!

Heading north from Florida, KAB stops off in the small town of Bremen, GA, west of Atlanta on the Alabama/Georgia border. He's doing a bookstore appearance from 3 to 4 pm, and then the show at 8 pm.

I expect this list to be smaller and not have as much media, as is normal when Kris plays a small town.

We've got a lot of fans who traveled for this one! Must be that wintry weather... I anticipate our best list in awhile.

Last year, Kris and band enjoyed the Live Loud Festival cruise - and you enjoyed watching their antics so much, it was the most popular post on this blog in 2014! This year, they are taking on a bigger, more high profile music cruise - the Rock Boat!

The Norwegian Pearl (photo via Norwegian Cruise Lines)
Kris and band and fans will set sail about the Norwegian Pearl (picture above) for a four-day adventure that will take them from the Port of Miami to the Mexican island of Cozumel, just off the Yucatan Peninsula. There will be a lot of fun, games and three, count them, three Kris shows! Plus they've got some friends and former touring companions on the cruise in Green River Ordinance and Andy Suzuki and the Method plus, how could I forget, the Barenaked Ladies are also on this cruise. We'll track it all and post updates as they come in this post.

Kris and band drive a short distance north on A1A and then hang a left inland to their next Florida show, in the large NE Florida city of Jacksonville, FL. One of my best friends in real life lives here, and from visiting her, I can say this is a very underrated and lively city!

The list is sparse again, although this particular venue and the opening act have frequently tweeted about the show. We shall see if we have last minute additions...

After the fun that was the West Palm Beach show, held in South Florida which has some awesome Kris fans, we move to northeast Florida to St. Augustine. It's a beautiful city (I've been there a few times as our family searched for the perfect vacation home place) but it's close to the venue for the following day, and this list is sparse. Kris is our main tweeter, so let's hope for last-minute additions.

Updated: I'll never understand venues that don't promote shows. Paltry partial set list and a bit of media found on IG after the break...

Kris returns to the college town of Gainesville, FL to kick off a January mini-tour of the Sunshine State. He last played this venue a little under two years ago during the Out Alive tour. His request song that time was a fun cover of Get Back by The Beatles. His full band solo shows were the best shows we've had since Horizons came out, so can't wait to see the tweaks the band has made to the set list! (I think it will be full band based on this Instagram post by drummer Brad.)

Show and List Preview:
If you've ever watched an episode of ABC's Nashville, you've seen the Bluebird Cafe. It's the bar that some of the characters work at and frequently showcase their musical talents at. So tonight, Kris Allen, his friend Adam Hambrick and others will do their best Gunnar, Deacon, Avery and Scarlett (well, scratch that last one, you know they will be more interesting than Scarlett) and bring their songs to the venue's unique "In the Round" format. The venue advertises "In the Round" shows in its FAQ as "... the songwriters in the center of the room, where they perform together, telling stories and accompanying each other. It’s a unique set up that allows the audience an up-close-and-personal experience of how songwriters create their music."

The list is pretty small as the venue is small and sold out quickly. Hope to add some people last minute.

Updated: Attendees were thrilled to see this intimate show. Basically each singer talked about a few of their songs and sang them. Set list and media after the break...

Your Picks for Favorite Kris Allen Performances of 2014

Recently, I put out a call on Twitter for your favorite Kris Allen performances of 2014. You didn't disappoint; many of you responded very enthusiastically with some great recommendations!

I've compiled everyone's picks into a YouTube playlist that you can see at the bottom of this post. The videos are in chronological order, even if that meant it did start out with a video of End of the Show from a February IL concert.

Two performances (with two videos each) were nominated by two people each, so technically, they got the most votes and so I'll call them your favorites of the year! Congratulations to Carolina on my Mind (Asheville, NC, September 11) and Lost (Santa Cruz, CA)! All the videos of them that were suggested are on the list.

In case you're wondering what I picked, I selected a few random ones that were fun to watch for me: either because they had college hijinks (End of the Show (Christopher Newport University, February); Alright with Me (San Angelo State); Live Like We're Dying (Univ. of Texas San Antonio)), they were songs I really like a lot that he doesn't play enough (Girl Across the Room, AR Tornado Relief Show, May)(One Love, Live Loud Fest, February) (the new Christmas song (Baby It Ain't Christmas Without You (Scottsdale, AZ, November)) or they're just a jam for the audience to enjoy (Live Like We're Dying, Minneapolis, November). I also am always thrilled when he plays SxSW so I picked the video of the wonderful stream we got from one of his gigs there (Heart of Austin, March). And I am not a big fan of It's Always You, but I thought the addition of the violin that was done in Patchogue, NY really elevated the song for me - so that video was a pick as well.

Of course, speaking of songs and things I'm not a big fan of, have no fear, Chandelier made the list a few times since everyone but me enjoys it. It was interesting to see that although we got a bunch of videos suggested, they tended to be from the same shows (solo: Natick MA, Louisville, Asheville, and Santa Cruz and for the Boyce Avenue tour: Minneapolis, San Francisco and Los Angeles). I was not surprised to see that shows in major cities like DC and NYC did not make the list; I know I wouldn't have put my own videos from DC on this list. Fans in those cities badly need a solo show (DC's last Kris show was in January 2013!) and our stretch of the Boyce tour did not get rave reviews from fans, between Kris' illness and Torres' absence plus VIP event planning issues.

Overall though, I think the playlist really does a great job of showcasing how fun Kris can be to see live. His voice was in amazing form this year and his dancing and joy are evident. There are some well-done covers and some originals that the band just goes to town on. Let's hear it for the band, by the way. They deliver, night in, night out, and there's no doubt that they have Kris' back. And finally, the audience gets really into it in these videos, which is wonderful to see.

The KAB did 96 shows this year (including private gigs we knew about). If someone wants to count up ALL the songs that were done, you'll find a spreadsheet here of them. Let's hope and pray we get many more shows, songs, live performances etc done for enthusiastic audiences everywhere in 2015!

Without further ado, here's the 2014 list for your enjoyment!
